Teams from all over competed in the BBQ Championship cook-off held by The West Coast BBQ Association at the Fairfield Tomato Festival on August 12, 2006. The QN4U team from Clovis won the Grand Championship with Maxx USDA Choice beef brisket purchased from the local FoodMaxx store. They also purchased the pork shoulder and chicken from FoodMaxx as well. FoodMaxx congratulates the Grand Champions Brent and Kim Walton. They are off to the Jack Daniel's Championship this fall. It's back to school time: Calling all teachers! Center Unified School District did just that, and called 600 teachers and administrators to a "pre-school season" mandatory meeting, followed by a fun-filled Health Fair. FoodMaxx proved to be the "Best in the West" with its award-winning store tours (SuperFriends), great fund-raising capabilities (SHARES), great produce (a basket full of apples, pears, peaches, and oranges made everyone's jump-start to "5 a Day" a possibility), and friendliness.
Clinica Sierra Vista, located in Bakersfield is sponsoring a "Healthy Child Campaign" from September to October. FoodMaxx and its mother company Save Mart Supermarkets are the exclusive grocer for the distribution of Free Child Kits. The small canvas bag kits will be stuffed with various items promoting healthy eating and living, and include our Kids Good Food Shopping Coupon Book, featuring coupons for 4 kid-friendly free foods.



These FoodMaxx stores hosted 5 a Day Poster Contest Awards Assemblies, where mountain bikes, backpacks, and lots of good food samples were given out of the "Wonderful World of Produce." Thousands of thematic posters were drawn by students 7-11 years of age and posted in the front ends of Save Marts and FoodMaxxes of California.
Manager Ray Prigmore and Maxxi the FoodMaxx pup have been encouraging students in 4 area schools to eat more fruits and vegetables. Samples to taste in class, SuperKids Health Calendars, as well as "5 a Day" coupons good for free produce have the students sitting up straight and paying attention. Yippee kiwi!
